Introductions: Danielle
Hey everyone! I’m Danielle and I’m a sophomore at NYU. I’m studying Dramatic Literature, which is basically an English major but instead of reading novels, we read plays. I love anything and everything to do with theatre, so I’m SO excited to be working with the festival this year! I’ve been performing since middle school and I’ve gone to theatre camp (Frenchwoods represent!) for 7 years. Last year, I interned at Jaradoa Theater, and now I’m an intern at Sh-K-Boom Records!
One show I’m really excited about is Judas and Me. It’s got some crazy star power – it’s written by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, who wrote The Wedding Singer, which I love, and the cast has some fierce people in it. It’s also a crazy hilarious religious comedy about a rivalry between Judas Iscariot and Jesus. See all the details here!
I’m also pumped for F#@king Up Everything. It’s a rock musical all about hipsters, stoners, and artists in Brooklyn, but it’s still a fun romantic comedy =). And, to quote their blurb, “ironic T-shirts.” You can get more info about this show here.
There are tons more shows to see than just these two! Go to www.nymf.org to see a list of full productions and all the other awesome events happening during this year’s festival!
Introductions: Sarah!
Hello!! My name is Sarah and I am a sophomore at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. I am majoring in Musical Theatre and loving every minute of it!! Even though this is my first time working with the festival, I did have the amazing opportunity of performing in the festival three years ago. I was in a show called “Intervention” which performed two shows as a special event. Ever since this experience, I have wanted desperately to work with the festival and learn what goes into making it possible. Now I am!!!
The two musicals I am most excited to see are MAX UNDERSTOOD and LORENZO. I am so excited to see Max Understood because it tells the story of a 7-year old boy with Autism. This is interesting to me as I would someday like to work with children with autism and the show takes you into the boy’s head to know his thoughts and feelings. For more information about Max Understood please visit http://www.nymf.org/Show-1216.html.
I am also excited to see Lorenzo because it tells the story about Mozart’s most famous collaborator. I am currently taking a course about the history of western music and I think this show will add to my understanding of famous musicians. It is a historical musical that is sure to be unforgettable. For more information about Lorenzo please visit http://www.nymf.org/Show-1119.html.
For more information on any of the shows please visit: http://www.nymf.org.
The festival will be fantastic this year so be sure to buy your tickets as soon as possible!
Introductions: Margaret
Hi everyone! We, the Student Leaders, are going to introduce ourselves one by one and highlight a couple of NYMF shows we’re each especially excited about.
I’m Margaret, currently a junior at Princeton University studying Classics and Theatre. This summer I helped out with the Joe Iconis Rock and Roll Jamboree, and in NYC I’ve also worked with the York Theatre Company, Stewart F. Lane Productions, and the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization. On my campus, I’m a board member of Princeton’s musical theater group, and I’ve done acting, stage managing, and costume and prop design.
One NYMF show I’m especially excited about this year is one I’m actually involved with, The ToyMaker. I’m the Production Assistant for the show, which has performances October 5th-18th at the Theater at St. Clements. We’ve got a really wonderful cast lined up and have made some exciting script changes since our reading at the York Theatre last year. I’m especially excited about the way the show combines a modern-day story with a historical one, making it, as we like to say, a journey that transcends time and place. You can find out more about this show at www.nymf.org/thetoymaker.
Another show I’m really excited to see is Hurricane, performing September 28th-October 10th, also at the Theater at St. Clements. I’m interested in Hurricane because I really like American history, and also because I’m excited to see how they combine many musical styles–as the NYMF website says, the score “incorporates elements of Depression-era pop, folk opera, and contemporary song.” You can find out more about this show at www.nymf.org/hurricane.
Tickets are now on sale for these and all other NYMF shows, so please click here to get your tickets now!
